  • Strengthens immune system

What to expect during your first treatment?

At the start of your session, your therapist will welcome you into the treatment room and ask about your health history, current concerns, and treatment goals. They may also conduct a brief assessment.

Once the initial assessment is complete, the therapist will step out of the room to allow you to get on the table.

During the hands-on portion of your treatment, your therapist will use techniques specifically tailored to your needs. You are always in control of your session, so don’t hesitate to speak up if you’d like adjustments or a different approach.

After the session, your therapist will leave the room to give you privacy to get dressed. They will then check in with you, offer self-care tips, and discuss a personalized treatment plan moving forward.

How long should my treatment be?

For your first massage, we recommend a minimum of 45 minutes to allow time for an initial assessment and treatment. If you’re addressing multiple areas of concern, a longer session may be more beneficial. If you're unsure about the ideal treatment length, feel free to reach out via phone or email. During your first appointment, you can also discuss with your therapist the appropriate duration for future treatments based on your needs.

Do I need to get undressed for my treatment?

Feel free to undress to whatever level makes you feel most comfortable. Some clients prefer to remove all clothing, while others leave their undergarments on or choose to stay fully clothed. You’ll be draped with a sheet throughout the treatment, with only the areas being worked on uncovered. If you prefer to keep your clothes on, we recommend wearing light, flexible clothing that allows for easy movement. Keep in mind, direct skin contact is preferred for techniques that involve oils or lotions.

What should I expect after a massage?

After your massage therapy session, you’ll likely feel deeply relaxed. Depending on the techniques used, some mild soreness may occur, lasting a day or two. Your therapist will provide you with homecare recommendations to help minimize any discomfort and enhance your recovery. You are welcome to contact your therapist anytime if you have any questions regarding your treatment or your recovery.

How often will I need to come in?

The frequency of treatment varies for each individual and depends on factors such as how long you've been experiencing the issue, your daily activities, and your treatment goals. We understand that time and financial constraints are important considerations, and we’ll work with you to create a treatment plan that fits your needs. While some issues may be resolved with just one session, others may require more treatments for effective resolution.

Do I need to always book with the same therapist?

You don’t have to book with the same therapist every time. We work as a team, so you can be confident that any therapist will be familiar with your health history and able to continue your treatment seamlessly.

Do you offer pregnancy massage?

Yes, all of our therapists are trained in pregnancy massage. We have specialized cushions that allow most patients to comfortably lie face down throughout most of their pregnancy.

Do I need to tip?

No, while tipping is customary in a spa setting, it is not expected nor necessary for health care practitioners in a clinical setting.

Do I need to have something wrong to get a massage?

No, you don’t need to have an injury or specific issue to get a massage. Massage therapy can be beneficial for relaxation, stress relief, improving circulation, and overall well-being. Many people choose massage as a preventive measure or to enhance their general health.

Is your clinic accessible?

Yes, our clinic is accessible! We have a ramp at the entrance, and all hallways and rooms are designed to accommodate mobility aids such as wheelchairs and walkers. Accessible parking is available close to the entrance, and accessible bathrooms are located within the building. If you need any additional support or have specific accessibility requirements, please let us know, and we’ll be happy to assist.

Do you bill insurance providers?

We can directly bill most extended health care plans. Please verify your coverage before your appointment, as plan details can vary, even within the same provider. If a claim is rejected, you will be responsible for the cost of your treatment. Please note that we can only bill one insurance policy per appointment, so we are unable to bill a secondary insurance provider if you are covered by two plans.

We are able to directly bill ICBC for your treatment. However, we are unable to bill WorkSafeBC (WSBC) or the Medical Services Plan (MSP).

If you would like to confirm whether we can bill directly for you, please contact us.

Do I need a doctor's referral?

No referral is required to see a massage therapist; however, some benefit plans may require one for reimbursement. Please check with your insurance provider before booking your appointment.

What are the education requirements of a Registered Massage Therapist (RMT)?

Registered Massage Therapists have completed a minimum of 2200 hours of government regulated education that includes not only hands on training in assessment and manual techniques, but also knowledge based courses in anatomy and physiology, kinesiology, neurology, and pathology. Once a diploma has been granted, we write provincial exams which must be passed to become registered. We also need to complete continuing education to maintain our registration. You can find more information at cchpbc.ca
